football shirt gambling sponsorship banThe Labour Party Shadow Sports  Secretary Tom Watson has called for a football shirt gambling sponsorship ban which would prevent gambling firms from displaying their logos on football shirts.

The past few years has seen a surge in the number of gambling firms advertising through the sport. Currently 25 of the 92 UK league clubs are involved in promoting gambling firms. Of that, 20 of the Premier League football teams are involved. Tom Watson has called for change.

William Hill Sponsorship Deal

It is reported that this William Hill sponsorship deal with ITV will allow them to be the named sponsor of horse racing broadcasting for a new four year contract.

William Hill Sponsorship DealDubai in the United Arab Emirates has sponsored ITV’s horse racing broadcasting  sponsor for the past 10 years. Sheik Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum heads up Dubai, he is a prominent figure in international horse racing. Dubai decided to withdraw making way for another sponsor.

During that time period Channel 4 have been the broadcaster of horse racing. Now it is to be taken over by ITV. This sponsorship deal came as a result of the change of broadcaster opening up a new partnership opportunity. Another strong contender for the new sponsorship deal was Sky Sports.

The 2016/17 League does not have title sponsorship. Barclays Bank sponsored it for 15 years since 2001 but they did not renew it for the new season. Apparently that was a policy decision, perhaps for financially driven. Richard Scudamore from the English FA announced that the FA would not allow a betting company to become a title sponsor. If that was not the case would there be gambling sponsor for the title, who knows? The FA is looking for a new title sponsor for next season.
