Craps the rules and how to play it
How to Play Craps – The Basics
How to play Craps – Craps is a game using two dice. The players make wagers on the roll of the dice, or a series of rolls. They wager money against each other. It can be played by single or multiple players.
The table is special because physical action is required to throw the dice. Players stand around a large oval table. Sitting in not encouraged, only for the infirm or disabled.
A table-cloth displays the betting options, made of felt as shown opposite. The craps table is shaped like a bathtub, about 4 m long and 1.5 wide. It stands 71 cm high. It has rim of 30 cm at one end against which the dice are rolled. The rim is covered with a rubberized deflector to randomly reflect the dice.
The “boxman” sits at the table behind the casino bank, he manages the casino chips. Two base dealers stand either side of the boxman and pays and collect bets around their half of the table. A “stickman” stands opposite the boxman announces the outcome of the roll of the dice. He also moves the dice around between each roll.
Players take turns rolling the dice. The person rolling the dice is called the “shooter”. The shooter is typically offered five dice from which two are chosen to execute the roll.
The game is played in rounds and the casino usually set the bet level and payout rate. Players place their bets using chips on the marked cloth which you see above.
The shooter must place a bet on the “pass line” and/or “don’t pass bar”. Other players doe the same before the dice are rolled.
If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 you win, If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12 you lose.
If the shooter rolls any other number that number becomes the point number. The shooter must roll the point number again before a 7 is rolled. If the point number is rolled you win, if the 7 is rolled, you lose. If you win you get even money for your pass line bet.
As soon as the “point” is established further bets can placed behind the pass line bet. This is known as the “Odds Bet”. Most casinos offer double odds for this bet so you can bet double your pass line bet.
The odds bet is paid as follows:
If the point is 4 or 10 it pays 2 to 1. It it is 5 or 9 it pays 3 to 2
If the point is 6 or 8 it pays 6 to 5.
